The Earth and the man are composed by four elementary substances: earth, water, air and fire.

The square or the cube and also the cross are the geometric figures that represent the four.

The four is the symbol of the manifested, created, material Universe  limited by the four sides.

The number five symbolizes the domain of the spirit on the matter.

It is the sum of the number 1, the creator principle, the spirit,  with the 4, the matter, the four elements – forming the human body.

The symbol of the five is the star of five tips called of pentagram.

The pentagram was used as symbol of the Secret Society created by Pythagoras.

In the ceremonial magic the pentagram is used at the center of the magic altar.

The pentagram also symbolizes the man, because the five star's tips (2 legs, 2 arms and the head), seem a man with the extended arms.

The pentagram with the tip upwards symbolizes the domain of the intelligence and of the wish on the wishes and the matter; with the tip downwards means the domain of the instincts on the reason.

For magicians represents man's domain on the four elements: gnomes, undines, sylphs and the salamanders.

According to old the Quinte-essence would be an ethereal, very pure and refined substance that would give life to the four elements that form the alive beings.

Pythagoras considered the odd numbers masculine and the even feminine.

The Pythagoreans considered the five as the number of the marriage, because it consists of sum of the 2, first feminine with the 3, masculine; the five unites a masculine quality to a feminine.

The five in life:

The man owns five senses: vision, audition, smell, palate and touch.

The senses put the man in relation with the world; without them we  could not notice the great variety of things that there are in the Universe.

The human hand owns five fingers.

Only the man and the monkeys own a flexible hand and with five fingers; without them the brain highly developed of the man could not execute, accomplish their mental creations.

The number six symbolizes the balance between sky and the earth,  the spirit and the matter.

The geometric symbol of the six is the star of six tips, hexagram or Salomon’s seal, who consists in two interlaced triangles.

The superior triangle, with the tip upwards represents the divine world, the spirit, the fire.

The triangle inferior, with the tip downwards, symbolizes the physical world, the matter, the water.

The six establishes the balance among two forces: the cosmic and the terrestrial.

The hexagram represents the hermetic principle: “as well as it is on top it is in low”.

This principle help us to understand that the divine world is not very different from the material world and the men that inhabit it; as well as a cat has many of the psychic and physical qualities of a man: love (to the nestlings), rage, fear, memory; eyes, legs, heart, lungs, etc.

Although the hexagram is considered a Jewish symbol, it is much more old than Salomon.

It was found in the pyramids and Egyptian monuments; in India is known as Vishnu’s Sign, being common to find him painted in many houses as a talisman against the badly.

The Bible says that God created the world in six days and His maxim work, the man, was created in the sixth day.

The six also can be considered as the symbol of the sexual union of whose act arises a physical body united to a spiritual body.

In latin  sex = six,  sexus = sex.

In the mathematics is considered a perfect number. The perfect numbers are the ones that are alike to the sum of their divisors.

Example:  6 = 1 + 2 + 3.

The perfect numbers are rare and just know the 6 first:  6 – 28 – 496 – 8128  and 33550336.

The six is the unique perfect number whose divisors are consecutive: 1,2,3.

Besides, the six is alike to the product of their divisors: 1 x 2 x 3 = 6.

Concluding the six is a doubly perfect number.
