THE REINCARNATION – I

Possibly the doctrine of reincarnation is a subject that is new to you. Still, this doctrine is older than written history and two thirds of humanity accepts it as fact.

The idea prevailing in occidental world that after a life of 70 or 10 years, if the individual has the misfortune of dying during the first years of his life, man, following the style of his life, is condemned to an eternity of happiness in heaven or of suffering in hell, proves to us how little occidental man recognizes the value of thinking about the problems related to Life and Death.   Because, if he stopped just for a moment only to think about this subject, this fallacious and absurd idea would have been abandoned a very long time ago.

Three prevailing different groups of thought try to explain the phenomena of life and death.

1 – The scientific theory says that life starts in the cradle and ends in the grave.  The conscience ends with the destruction of the body and the brain.

2 – The theological theory says that each human being, at birth, receives a soul just created by God and during the sort period between birth and transition, in accordance with his style of life, if good or bad, he should live eternally in heaven (a place full of peace and happiness) or in hell (a place of atrocious suffering), all this after a period of sleep which will last until the trumpets announce the Final Judgment.

3 – The theory of the occultists, of he oriental doctrines, of the spiritualists, etc. states that the spirit is a part of God which cast forth from the Center (God), lives various lives in a material body, gradually improving through obstacles and problems found in its environment, until the reaching of perfection and the return to its Origin.

The first of these theories, the scientific one, does not have, according to its methods, means to study the spiritual events and, naturally, denies the existence of reincarnation and also of various phenomena which occur in other planes (other vibratory frequencies).

Nevertheless, some scientists, he parapsychologists, courageously started to study reincarnation and according to our opinion, will end up including reincarnation as scientific fact, as occurred with telepathy and hypnotism.

The theological theory follows the ancient dogmas of the mystics who lived during the Hebrew civilization and the more recent dogmas of Jesus Christ. Nevertheless, there is nothing in the Bible which denies the fact of reincarnation.

We will study the third theory in greater detail because it is the most logical of the three.

Reincarnation explains better than any other theory why one person is born intelligent whereas another is born stupid or a boor, skilful or clumsy.

Many of the first African or American civilizations, besides believing in the survival of the spirit, believed in the return of the spirit in a new material body.

The first civilizations of Egypt, Chaldea, Persia, China also believed in reincarnation.

But it was in India that this doctrine was always amply spread because the Hindu mind was very attracted to spiritual matters and India is the homeland of the great mystics.   Even though, due to neglect of material matters the situation was thrown out of balance and today India is becoming a famished nation and in no condition to go along with modern practices and manners and, therefore, to be a leader in the area of mysticism.

Although the Christian Churches do not believe in reincarnation, the following passages from the Bible reveal that the primitive Christians did believe in reincarnation:

“Some say it is John the Baptist, others that it is Elisha, or Jeremiah or one of the prophets”- answer given by the disciples of Jesus when He asked them who they thought He as”(Saint Matthew, XVI-14).

Referring to John the Baptist, Jesus said: “If you want to believe, this is the Elisha who had to come”(Saint Matthew, XVI-14).

When the disciples mentioned the prophecy in the Old Testament that Elisha should come before the Saviour, He answered: “In fact Elisha will come and recover everything.  Still, I tell you that Elisha already come and was not recognized … The disciples understood then that He was talking to them about John the Baptist (Saint Matthew, XII-13.

In Saint John XV we read that His disciples on finding a man that had been born blind asked Jesus: “Who sinned, this man or this parents, for him to be born blind?”.

From this question we conclude the belief in reincarnation as well as Karma was common in those times and if Jesus had not approved of those ideas He would not have missed the opportunity to admonish his disciples.

Jesus’ doctrine could be summarized thus: “Love thy Father above everything else and thy neighbor as thyself”. Within His teachings there were no instructions on reincarnation, nourishment, life beyond the Earth, etc. for those peoples whose way of life was very different to ours.

When one studies reincarnation, the most important question is this: Can reincarnation be proved?

Putting aside the instructions left by numberless Masters and occultists endowed with extra sensory perception, reference is made to the thousands of cases of people from all over and at all times who remembered about their former existence, as proof.

The general rule, though, is that people do not remember their former existences – which is a blessing: our prior personalities were more coarse than our present one.  This is also the case of the environment.  And we went through many moments of suffering and horror.  Those disagreeable periods, if they were recorded in our memories,  would make our present lives unbearable.

Try to remember a period when you suffered and you will perceive that during the days that followed and even many months ate, the memory of your sufferings tortured your everyday life.

Now that many years have passed you do not suffer that influence any longer and, in fact, you do not want the memories to return to your mind.

Now try remember some things that happened when you were four years or even nine years old. Thousands of things happened at that time.  Still your memory only fixes two or three occurrences and sometimes not even that.

During previous centuries the memories of former lives were witnessed by qualified people and even by scientists of those times.  But, as the scientists of those times are not believed by the present ones, as likewise those of the present will not be believed by the scientific researchers of the future, those cases were forgotten.

In late years various scientific institutes have been looking into reincarnation and have already recorded thousands of cases which have been studied exactingly in scientific terms.

Rebirth is the only way by which we can explain why some people have a more developed mental capability than others, such as memory, reasoning and creativity, or why others are more apt at work that needs the use of the hands such as drawing, fix a radio or build a shed in the back yard.

Child prodigies are another indication that reincarnation exists.  These children at an early age are able to compose classical music, make complicated calculations, speak foreign languages.

They are already born with that knowledge, they do not need books or teachers.  In other cases all that is need is a rapid contact with the science or art of their calling to reach the stage that an adult only reaches after many years of studying very hard.

Another field which opens up to the researchers of reincarnation is the age retrogression experience by means of hypnotism which allows a person to return to the past, passing though childhood and continuing back to former lives.  This experience permits that a person remembers his past as if he were actually living it again.

The only problem arising from these experiences, is that the facts occurred many centuries ago in a completely changed environment and he characters which took part are all dead which makes it very difficult to prove that the facts mentioned by the person hypnotized actually occurred.

I searched God and did not find Him.

I searched to me and did not find me

I searched the neighbor and found the three.

No human being is self-sufficient, all of us

We need other ones to be we ourselves.
