THE KARMA – I Karma is a word of Sanskrit origin which means action indicating, thus,
that very action or occurrence is the effect of a cause. The Law of Karma corresponds to
the Contingency Law or the Law or Cause and Effect of the scientists and
philosophers. Whereas though in a
very imperfect manner. All action produces an
effect. If you criticize you will be
criticized; if you smile, you will receive smiles in return; if you help a
friend or even an enemy, he will try to requite appropriately even if, due to
his pride he does not do it openly; if you close yourself in a laboratory
trying to discover something which will give humanity more comfort, cure or
destroy it, you will eventuality discover what you are searching for; if you
seek to exploit your fellow beings, even if they do not realize it, the
Cosmic Law will punish you accordingly in this or in another life. The Karma was also taught to the
Christians by apostle Paul: “What man sow, likewise he will reap. Because he
who sows aiming at his flesh, will shear corruption from his flesh, but from
his spirit. Therefore, let us not
give up doing good as we will reap at the proper time if we do not grow
weak”. We should pay more attention to
our acts because everything we want to realize in life will depend on our
present actions. The students of Karma-Yoga, one of
the branches of Yoga, are people who try to follow the Path of Action instead
of thinking and praying a lot. They
prefer to practice actions which will bring good results as much for
themselves as for humanity. Because of a mistaken
interpretation, the word Karma is associated, preferably to suffering . If business is bad, if they are constantly
sick, if they do not get on with their neighbors and co-workers, certain
mystics say: “this is my karma”. But when they reach a favorable
professional position or enter a harmonious social circle, all because of
their positive character and great effort, they do not remember to say that
it is their karma. Riches, love, peace and happiness
– this is also Karma. In the Karma Bank we can have a
credit as well as a debit balance. All our “assets” are registered there:
acts of love, envy, hate, charity, laziness.
Our balance can be positive or negative. Those who have a high average
balance of good actions, besides having the direct and immediate help of the
great shareholders (spiritual and earth Masters), they will have a blissful
life here on Earth. Those who have a low balance, or
even a negative one, will not benefit from the direct friendship of the
millionaires of Knowledge and Love (the Masters) and will also have a life
full of hardships. That is
“programmed hardships” in that they learn to act in accordance with the laws
of Nature. In order to have perfect happiness
we must practice irreprehensible actions in the three planes: the physical,
the emotional and the mental. Some people have great riches and
can do anything they want materially, but are profoundly unhappy because they
do not know how do act in the emotional world and their emotional body needs
greater development. Others are good, cheerful,
intellectual, but their actions are excessively idealistic. They are unable to obtain material comfort
for themselves. Those who control the Scales of
Justice, weighing the positive and the negative of human beings are know by
the Orientals as Lipikas and by the Christians as Archangels. It is they who choose the best
parents, family and certain friends and enemies who, in certain cases, were
linked to us in former lives and which are more convenient to our evolution. The evil circumstances in which we
are very often placed – such as evil families, underdeveloped towns, sick
bodies do not constitute a vengeance on the pat of the Lords of the
Karma. They are but situations with
the purpose of perfecting our personality. If before a disagreeable effect is
about to occur, as triggered by us, ourselves, in a remote or recent past, we
perform a very rapid evolution, we may be able to avoid or, at least, soften
the bad karma inasmuch as, due to our rapid evolution we will know how to
dominate the bad karma, or, it may no longer be necessary as a lesson to
learn something useful. The Lords of the Karma send the
Spirit to the Earth during a period in which the stellar influences are more
adequate to the evolution of that Spirit. Countries also have their karmas
which is made up of the actions of the generations of the past as well as the
present generation. Therefore, according to the
actions of the country’s inhabitants, whether they are lazy, warriors,
progress minded, that will be he destiny of the nation and its inhabitants. The new generation will reap the
fruits of those which went before and this new generations is the one that is
preparing the conditions of the homeland in which its children will live a
new cycle of life. It is not easy to know if an
occurrence is the result of an action realized in former lives or in this
one. But we should not trouble
ourselves with this. The best thing
is to try the perform the largest amount of positive actions and thus
increase our credit of happiness and peace. It is not within our reach to know
the details of how the Lords of the Karma operate in order that everyone
receives the best circumstances for their evolution. But in a general way, we can present some
examples. A person eats too much, fatty,
artificial food, dough without any nutritious value, drinks too much alcohol,
smokes a pack of cigarettes per day, does not do enough exercise preferring
to stay lazily watching TV. In another life he will receive a
sick body and spend his whole life concerned about his body. He will have to spend his life on diets
due to his fragile body and he will not be able to commit any physical
excess. Another example: a rich man avoids
to face his problems and has his secretary take care of the disagreeable and
difficult cases while he lives the “good life”. In another life the rich man with
his capability to fight for life atrophied will become a mere subordinate in
charge of very simple things. Whereas the secretary of the rich
man who broke his back solving his boss’ problems will easily reach a key
position in his professional and social life. Karma is not a law created to
perform vengeance but to show the just path. And the good or bad effects are
exclusively our responsibility. The effects are not always
produced in another life as some think. If we drive a car at high speed
and little attention on an intensely traveled highway and we kill a child we
will verify that the Law of Karma was put into action instantly: our
imprudence and lack of attention produced a tragic result. Insofar as the child is concerned,
either that was its destiny or, which is quite possible, I was subject to
these accidents in its state of evolution, as we all are. The Earth is a place where accidents such
as this one, or others like falling off a scaffolding, stepping on a high
tension wire, slipping and braking one’s arm, are things that can occur. They are “slight” mistakes caused by lack
of attention, imprudence, leisureliness and other defects of ours or of our
fellow men, which are “normal” in this plane.
